Virginia City currently has several museums, churches, and historical buildings that can provide you some insight into life during the gold and silver rush era.

First Presbyterian Church
This 1866 historic church is located at 196 South C Street, it was one of the few public buildings that survived the great fire of October 1875, when over 80% of Virginia City burned to the ground.

Fourth Ward School Cultural Center
Built in 1876, the school provides history and culture of the Comstock period.

Julia C. Bullette Red Light Museum
History of Julia Bullette, a favored soiled dove of 1860s Virginia City. Displays include vintage erotica and antique medical equipment.

Liberty Engine Company #1 State Fireman Museum
Displays artifacts relating to the history of fire fighting on the Comstock Lode.

Mackay Mansion Museum
Built in 1860 by John Mackay, one the most famous individual of the Comstock. It now displays mining artifacts, original furnishings and Tiffany silver.

Nevada Gambling Museum
This museum has a large display of gambling memorabilia, including antique slot machines, cheating devices and gamblers' weapons.

Piper's Opera House
The Opera House was built in the 1880s and attracted several famous stars from Europe during the Comstock era.

Saint Mary's in the Mountains
One of the most prominent historical structures in Virginia City.

Storey County Courthouse
The Courthouse was rebuilt in 1876, after the great fire of 1875. It is the oldest continuously operating courthouse in the state.

Territorial Enterprise Museum
This building, built in 1876; Mark Twain began his writing here.

Virginia & Truckee Railroad
You can take a 35 minute steam train ride through the heart of the historic Comstock mining region.
